Registration, Assessment and the Australian Qualifications Recognition Process
Overseas trained doctors form an essential part of the Australian medical workforce, particularly in meeting medical workforce shortages in rural areas, the public hospital system and some specialist disciplines. To enable overseas trained doctors to enter the Australian workforce, a series of processes has been developed to assess and recognise qualifications and skills acquired overseas. These processes have been developed to determine an applicant's
educational and occupational standing within Australia.
In line with assessment and recognition processes developed for other professions, there are several steps that must be completed by overseas trained doctors to gain general registration in Australia.
Please go to the Assessment section for further details.
